The Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement second edition (CESMM) has been approved by the sponsors-the institution of civil engineers and federation of civil engineering-contructors.
It is for use in works of civil engineering construction. Civil engineering standard method of measurement second edition supersedes the first edition in 1976.
In 1983 the council of the institution of civil engineers instructed the CESMM review committee to prepare a second edition of the civil engineering standard method of measurement.
The work of analyzing the comments received on the first edition and the drafting of second edition was undertaken by Martine Barnes and partners who were assisted by McGill and partners.
Many organizes contributed comments and suggestions for amendment of the document. and others participated by reviewing drafts and giving advice.
The object of the amendments made in the Civil engineering standard method of measurement second edition was two fold.
What is CESMM4 used for
In short, CESMM is intended to be used for works of civil engineering when the design has been substantially completed by the client’s designer, enabling a bill of quantities to be prepared in accordance with the detailed rules of measurement set out in CESMM.
