Civil Engineering and Urban Planning IV includes the papers presented at the 4th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Urban Planning (CEUP 2015, Beijing, China, 25-27 July 2015). The contributions from experts and world-renowned scientists cover a wide variety of topics:

– Civil engineering;

– Architecture and urban planning;

– Transportation engineering;

– Geomatics;

– Natural hazards and risk, and

– Rock mechanics and rock engineering.

Civil Engineering and Urban Planning IV will appeal to professionals and academics involved in the above mentioned areas.

Bohai Strait Tunnel Project is a new planning major project of China.

A key issue for this project is the transportation and economic benefit after implementation.

Civil engineering and urban planning iv discusses the contribution of Bohai Strait Tunnel Project to freight transportation system and economic benefit.

Modified Negative Exponent Network Flow Assignment model (MNENFA model) and economic benefit analysis were used in this manuscript.

Three logistic routes were selected in this paper, including, Tongliao-Yantai, Dandong-Yantai, and Shenyang-Yantai. Two cases: “without Bohai Strait Tunnel” and “with Bohai Strait Tunnel” were used to make a comparison.

Multiple transportation modes were considered, such as highway transportation, railway transportation, air transportation, water transportation, and their combined transportation.

It was found that after implementation of Bohai Strait Tunnel project, tunnel transportation became the new main transportation mode and took up very large market share and freight volume.

Besides, it was also found that Bohai Strait Tunnel project could bring great economic benefits; the benefit of time saving was larger than the benefit of distance reduction.
