Scope

1.1 This practice provides the procedure for using the impulse-response method to evaluate rapidly the condition of concrete slabs, pavements, bridge decks, walls, or other platelike structures.

1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

Summary of Practice
4.1 A grid is laid out on the surface of the concrete element to be tested.

Grid spacing normally ranges between 500 mm and 2000 mm and is selected on the basis of the size and shape of the element to be tested.

A closer spacing is used for smaller elements and to locate smaller anomalous regions.
